Prompt: They Were a Color She'd Never Seen Before

They were a color she’d never seen before, and wearing clothing which such an odd cut that Greta wondered how their clothes even stayed roughly the correct shape. The strangely-colored people had what appeared to be entire small bushes growing from their heads, and their eyes had pupils that were rectangular like a goats. Otherwise, the strange people looked human. Greta took a few steps backwards as they approached her, and she wondered if she was imagining the sense of seeing into her mind the stares of the strangers seemed to give her.
There were three people in the approaching group. It seemed to be a family – there was one with a squared face and broad shoulders who Greta assumed was a man, a slender woman, and another person who stood at about a head shorter than the adults. If the child was male or female, Greta couldn’t tell.
Greta put her hands up in a “don’t come closer” gesture, but the group didn’t slow their stride to meet her. If anything, they seemed to move even faster. Greta, not feeling confident she could outrun them, put her hands on the nearest tree branch and started to pull herself upwards. She hoped that these odd people wouldn’t be able to climb up after her – in the tree she would be completely trapped. The thought made her feel sick to her stomach.
By the time the people reached her tree, Greta had managed to get herself a good ways up. Thankfully, the people stopped at the base of her tree, rather than trying to go up after her. They all stared at her with unreadable expressions. Greta closed her eyes and tried to will them to go away. All she wanted was to run back through the door in her backyard, and back to her own world.
We won’t go away simply because you wish us to do so. The voice seemed to speak directly into her mind, and Greta couldn’t help but yelp out loud. The voice seemed to belong to the child on the ground, who was looking up at her with a perplexed expression. We’ve never seen a person like you before, and we don’t intend to leave until we’ve learned more about you.
